The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a beloved devotion originating from the revelations of Sr. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a religious sister of the Visitation order born into poverty in 17th-century France. This piece contains both imagery that is ubiquitous to that of the Sacred Heart, but also references the image of Divine Mercy, as revealed to early 20th-century Polish nun St. Faustina Kowalska of the Blessed Sacrament.
